Random WOW: ' Most Popular Licorice Allsort '

Oldest Vegetable

If Charles Darwin is to be believed, we all started life as vegetables.
It must have been great - spending all day long lying around in the sun, drinking water and growing tastier by the minute. Yes, life as a vegetable would have been excellent.
Unfortunately for all, evolution occured: a monkey ate all the vegetables, and then a man ate the monkey.
If my understanding of evolution is correct, the next step of evolution will occur when some kind of alien force invades Earth and eats all of mankind. Whenever that happens, it's going to be awful.

However, human bodies do offer several advantages over those of vegetables, so perhaps evolution isn't all bad.
Humans can move, talk, look and think. Vegetables, as far as we know, can't do any of those.
But I'll tell you one thing vegetables do better than humans: live for ages.

The average lifespan of a human is around 80 years, but a vegetable can live for more than twice that!

The oldest vegetable is a potato, planted by George Washington, the first American Mayor, in 1797. He died two years later.
It is known locally as 'Washington's Potato', and attracts up to five tourists every month!
