Most Famous Scream

When was the last time you fell to your death?
The answer is never, since you are currently alive and able to think.
In order to fall to your death successfully, you must perish bloodily.

It is a fairly rare occurrence, since people generally don't enjoy falling to their deaths. So if, for some odd reason, you wish to watch people falling to their deaths, there's one place you should go immediately: into films!

Yes, in films people are forever falling to their deaths:
Indiana Jones shoots an Arab: he falls to his death.
Luke Skywalker shoots a Stormtrooper: he falls to his death.
The Balrog shoots Gandalf: they both fall to their deaths!
The only exception to this rule is in The Goonies, when some kids almost fall to their deaths, but are inexplicably saved by a pair of joke plastic teeth on a spring.

But the Goonies aside, what does every movie falling death have in common?
Of course, it is the scream!

For more than eighty years, the same sound effect has been used by lazy sound effects technicians to illustrate the sheer horror experienced by someone falling to their death.
It's so well-known, it even has a name: Wilhelm!

You can learn more about Wilhelm somewhere far less interesting than here.

But Wilhelm is not the most famous scream. No way!

For the most famous scream is 'The Scream', a painting by Edvard Munch!
It's a painting of a man on a pier, screaming because he has dropped his candy floss in a puddle.

WOW!
