Oldest School Tie

The tie is an odd piece of clothing.
It doesn't make you any warmer, it doesn't hide an embarrassing body part and it doesn't hold up your trousers. What is the purpose of a tie?

As any unusually talkative office worker will tell you, a tie is supposed to make you look less like a homeless.

One of the most famous tie-wearers is Indiana Jones, who sports one throughout the film 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'.
He puts it on to make a good first impression when he meets Hitler.
And it works!

Many school uniforms feature ties, primarily for school bullies to 'peanut' younger pupils.

But you wouldn't be able to 'peanut' the oldest school tie. It barely exists!

The oldest school tie is the one that William the Conqueror wore when he was a boy.
You can probably see a picture of it in the Bayeux Tapestry.
