In the interests of science, I once attempted to measure the growth rate of several species of plant.
Having purchased four new rulers and attached each to a plant pot using a rubber band, I gave all subjects a teaspoon full of water - and the experiment began!

Here are my results:

Tomato seed: Nothing.

Grass: Something (an ant appeared).

Flower: Nothing.

Leaf: Something (the leaf fell over).

What these results mean is that I wasted not only an afternoon staring at plant pots, but also almost £3.00 on apparatus!

If only I could have acquired a cutting from the fastest growing plant, things would have been dramatically different. I would have been able to climb up it, meet a giant and steal his dog!

That's because the fastest growing plant is the beanstalk from the famous Greek myth 'Jason and the Beanstalk'.

If you've never read it, imagine the film 'Clash of the Titans', except without the plasticine.
