The human race is blessed with several senses, each useful in their own way.
Thanks to sight, we can see things hurtling towards us, such as cattle, vehicles... and cattle in vehicles.
Hearing enables us to hear the sounds of danger, such as the sound of a bomb blowing up, or of a lift door shutting with my hand trapped in it.
And don't forget the sense of smell, which exists to direct us towards sources of food, and away from stinking places, such as Chatham.
There may be more senses. Exactly how many we have is unknown. I even went so far as to write to a scientist, and he didn't reply!
But what isn't unknown is the fastest human sense: yes, the sense of hearing of course, also known as the sense of listening.
Apparently, it takes 8-10ms for a sound to travel into your mind. Compare that to the 20-40ms it takes for an image to appear, and you will be literally amazed.
The sense of smell is obviously the slowest, since the smell waves have to fit up your hairy nose before they can even get near your brain.
WOW!
